Anyone know of any must-sees in Southern Utah along the way?
This is the motorcycle route I'm planning (clicky.)
I've made the trip numerous times on the interstate, and down through Four Corners/Mexican Hat/Monument Valley, so this route is less familiar. I might have taken it once or twice back when I was a kid living in CO.
Is Arches National Park worth a look? Or is it pretty hot there? Is the time better spent in Colorado's lush, idyllic mountainscapes, instead of the background of the Road Runner cartoons?
I'm going to be rocking my bright yeller crash-suit, so
lock up ya daughter, lock up yer wife, lock up yer back door and run for ya life!
Anticipation List (spontaneous order):
~Ride up Pikes Peak, finally break 60mph on way back down.
~Ouray hotsprings
~Million Dollar Hwy (motorcycle)
~Hwy 50 from Montrose to Salida (the original memory that kicked off this dream trip)
~Have a cold beer in the grass in the shade of those cottonwood trees next to the river in downtown Salida, and see if Alice's Restaurant is still there.
~Taste that crazy mineral water in the fountain at the park in Manitou Springs at the base of Pikes
~Ride the Copper Triangle counterclockwise and unsupported; fart around Breck, Frisco area, eat in the hippy restaurants & markets, and cruise for braless free-spirits in birkinstocks.
