If you want pretty low gearing I believe these are the rings that I have on a single bike.

I believe you can use any brand of ring but be careful mixing Sugino with other brands on the same crank. I understand that Sugino rings have a slightly different offset from the crank spider than most other brands. To get just the right space between rings you might have to go with all Sugino or all another brand.

Some say that ramps and pins are over rated but I have not tried modern shifters with flat rings. I think it is the front derailleur and shifter that will make the difference rather than the chain width. Best front shifting for me is with Campy shifters rather than Shimano but Shimano 10 speed works pretty well too.
