I get your point and I suspect you are right. I made many adjustments to my C'dale based on recommendations on this forum. My average speed has improved because of that and the training of course. The C'dale was so bad that I considered taking a Trek Hybrid. Now the C'dale is just as comfortable after all the adjustments, add on's and aero bar.
