Ah... that makes sense. I understand... coming from a frugal family with Polish/German/Scottish roots. And your wife does have a point. However, if you can afford it, and you stated that you can, I think shaving a few pounds with a new bike will be helpful. Of course, shaving a few pounds off yourself will be much more economical. If you lost five pounds, and took two pounds off the bike (don't know the weight difference between the Specialized and the C'dale) that would be seven pounds you're not dragging over ~3000 miles. Just a thought. Good luck.
