Any bike over 500 dollars in value never leaves my sight. For commuting to work I have a 22k basketed, racked, kid seated hard tail cheap mtb. A few choice upgrades -(bb, brakes) and it will carry my kids, go to costco, and never ever be stolen even with a single cable lock. Keep your good toys where they are safe.
