Yes, what made it hard, I believe, is much of the "sports" wisdom had me carb loading before a ride and my doctor just smiled and said, sure, if you were in your 20s. The program had to be modified a bit because of my activity level but still it is lower in carbs and higher in protein. Plus the calorie burn estimates I was using may have been overly generous. Eating six times a day is taking some getting used to but the doctor assures me this is the way to go. I look forward to having a better feeling about riding the climbing part of Stage two of this years AMGEN in the fall.
