Bikes: 87 RockHopper,2008 Specialized Globe. Both upgraded to 9 speeds. 2019 Giant Explore E+3

Bike shops are still selling 7 speed, so I wouldn't worry.
They have to have something lower on the food chain to make their other bikes look worth the money.
