The new frames are quite different IMHO. In most cases the handlebars are a lot higher than horizontal TT diamond frames. Also, room for fenders. It is what many people like. I acquired a WSD Trek Pilot this winter or cheap. It is an amazingly nice riding aluminum framed bike. Also, the brifters are like having an automatic tranny. Not my chosen workhorse, but I keep it for guests.

Go to the Trek LBS test ride before building the 460. Actually the FX line is very nice at a popular pricepoint. The hybrid crowd on BF love 'em.

For what you'd sink into brifters and a modern drovetrain, buy a whole bike.
