i think it's kind of hilarious that I started this thread about a year ago, when I was trying to decide which derailleur to put on my Surly Traveler's Check touring bike. I collected up nearly all of the derailleurs in the poll, and couldn't decide which one, hence the thread.
but then I realized that none of these had the capacity to handle a triple crankset with an 11-34 9-speed cassette; I needed a derailleur with a 45T capacity and the widest range of any of these was 42 I think. so I ended up going with a modern Shimano Deore XT shadow m772:
Because I run some extremely wide ranges on my touring bikes I needed a derailleur with some massive capacity and found that the SRAM X series and Suntour friction barcons are a match made in heaven as the action on the derailleur is so incredibly light and precise.
The P20 has a 40/48/53 mated to a 12-34 Suntour Ultra 7 block and still has room to spare (I think it has a 45 tooth capacity) and I love the cable routing on the X series as it does not interfere with pannier hooks or tie down straps.
