zebede, How did you shim the MTB bars? I would have thought that most standard bars were tapering at the points the syntace clamp would fit. The problem with trekking bars is that the section with the levers on is behind the clamp and hence would shorten the reach. On normal bikes it is usually recommended to fit a longer stem when swapping to trekking bars.
Shims made from aluminium soft drink cans. Agreed on your observation on trekking bars. It does not acheive your objective of increasing reach in the normal riding position. But it does give additional reach on the forward part of the bars and additional hand positions. Not ideal but it does offer some pros.
Could you rotate the trekking bars with the opening (with brake levers and shifters) away form the rider instead of towards the rider. Placing the brakes farther away?
