Ordered a new fork through the local shop. Posted on Treks Facebook page asking politely for some help. Trek responded with give us some more info, and will see what is possible, of course while reiterating the Original owner policy. Very clean separation of the fork and the aluminum piece, no damage at all. The other side also has a separation in the paint appearing, but is still stable. If I could afford a new frame I would go that route, but that is not going to happen anytime soon.
