Assuming you have quick release wheels, the skewer is the rod that goes through the axle. Has a lever one one end and a cap/nut on the other. Just flip the lever, unscrew the black capnut thing, slide the skewer out, clean it off with a rag and wipe some fresh grease on it and then put it back in place.
It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense that a dry / unlubed skewer would cause that noise - but it does on my bike.
