I've never gone down baldy road because it's fun to climb back out of Baldy village and then you don't have to commute back to your car. The route I posted is slightly longer and a bit hillier but probably more fun.
The basic guidance is to keep going up anytime there's an intersection (it works both ways, strangely enough). There's an intersection after the shack and the "up" route takes you to GRR, the "down" route takes you down the mountain to Camp Williams. There's another intersection at Baldy Village and "up" takes you to the village. "down" takes you down baldy road no matter which way you approach the intersection.
Post when you get here, I'm sure somebody would ride with you. I'm in.

TH, thanks for the advice. I'll definitely post when I'm going to give it a shot. Next trip is in two weeks or so - we'll see. Be advised I'm a 200 lb senior citizen, but in reasonable good shape. My general approach to climbing anything is to avoid stopping, but that's a good climb. Here's a typical hard climb in our area. Not as long as GMR/GRR, but average grade is decent. I hate the fact that there are some downhills on the way up. I have a tough, dead end ranch road right near my house, but the road is so bad I don't do that one very often.
