I would leave it as is. It serves your purposes fairly well and most upgrades to it will cost you more $$$ than I think is worth it. Build the Cannondale for speed.

Hey, since you are from the area, have you ridden the Summit Metroparks trail that is just east of the towpath? While not as scenic, it does run past Brandywine falls. Most of it is paved. Going north, it joins into Bedford reservation which is a very lovely park and the hills will give you a good workout. I only ride the towpath a handful of times now. In the summer it is just way too dusty.
