I just picked up the GT bike today and gave it a spin. Parts seem to be in decent shape for an old bike, but the frame doesn't have the best appearance. I think I'll be using the GT bike for parts only in this case.

On that note, can I get some specifics about measurements:

1) Steerer tube length: How long should it be at least?
2) Front derailleur: What exactly should i measure?
3) Bottom bracket: Do I just need to match the width and threading since I'm reusing the same crankset?
4) Anything else that needs to be measured?
