Thick tires is the main goal here.
Do you mean thicker as in inside to outside, or thicker as in wider width.
I think you might be best served if you replace your search for "thicker" tires with a search for "better" tires.
After all, how good of tires do you think were installed on a $300 bike. Hell, you wouldn't have bought it if they had to include the price of a decent set of tires.
