there's some variety too. Some are better for SUVs or Vans, some are better for cars with trunks. You have a '97 what?

since wifey and I have hatchbacks I prefer the racks that rest most of the weight on the rear bumper and the top rests on the top metal of the hatchback. in some cases the top member rests on the rear window. I just ordered a new one for wifey's car and I'm not 100% sure where it will rest, but it should be fine where ever it rests. I bought mine from amazon.

here are a few that would work with an SUV, these are generally harder to find on CL. some of these might be adjustable so they might work OK on a car with a trunk too
