Bikes: 2011 Surly Pacer. Shimano 105 components.

What should I be looking for to fit this tall guy?

So,

I used to ride an old 1988 Schwinn tempo with the Coloumbus Tenax tubing set.
I Bought it brand new in 1989 and rode it for many years before the late teenage years hit and I found cars instead of bikes.
Years later after deciding I wanted to get back on the bike, I had a friend start a rehab on the bike to bring it out of storage.
Unfortunately he quickly found a cracked head tube on it (explains the squirly high speed handling... lol) and we decided to replace the frame and carryover as many components as we could. This Schwinn was I believe the largest size they produced at the time being a 25" frame. I can double check the measurements as I still have the frame and fork.

So we replaced the frame with a surly pacer frameset in a 62cm size.
Now I am finding however that I believe this frame is a bit to small for me.
I will have to grab some pics, but I ride with about 8" of seatpost exposed and I am currently waiting on new cables so that I can add my new riser stem to try and improve the fit for added comfort. I am 6'5" tall and I wear a 36" inseam jeans. I will have to measure my cycling inseam for proper leg length.

I remember riding a Cannondale frame when I was looking at the Schwinn originally and being amazed at the stiffness and light weight of the bike.
I have also seen some of the threads recently talking about the larger Cannondale frames that were available.

So as a long term goal I have decided I would like to one day own a Cannondale frame that potentially fits me better than my current frame.
The question is, what should I be looking for?

I would like to retain my current group as much as possible including the wheels I just had built with a 36 spoke 105 5700 rear hub and a DH3N72 front dyno hub on Open Sport rims. Of course this means 130mm dropout spacing and built for 700c.

Yes, I ride brifters because I find them convenient and comfortable as well. I know some of you would find this sacrilege, but I would be using them on this bike as well.

I am more of a distance rider than a speed rider so comfort is more important than aggressive handling in my book as well. (St series?)

Being as this is long term, I am willing to wait for the deals as they become available, so I m not really in a rush and I'd like to make the most educated purchase I possibly can.

Any recommendations?
What say the C&V cognoscenti?

Thanks
-Rick

P.S. I can add pics of the referenced bikes maybe later today or tomorrow.
And BTW, My wife now rides my fathers old '87 Circuit frameset that has been upgraded with 9 speed Dura Ace components as well.
