I am a bike commuter and have done some road cycling in past years, mainly light touring on a Surly Crosscheck. I used to ride a Pista until I t-boned a bike messenger who was going the wrong way down a 1-way street here in NYC and broke the top tube. I now ride a Raleigh Sports around the city, and sold my Crosscheck before I moved here. I am getting the itch to get back out for longer rides. There are a lot of gorgeous carbon fiber bikes out there, but I am looking for a high-end steel bike. Not sure if I should go new or vintage, and am having a tough time figuring out where to start looking.

If you could buy any steel road frame in the world (money aside), what would it be? (Apologies if there is a thread already out there that addresses this same topic.)
