But then most frame designers don't have a clue when it comes to big frames. Just something I've discovered riding for 50+ years and fitting a 63-66cm.

Yes yes yes! So very true and not widely understood. Even more problematic if you want to put a Brooks on your tall frame. Good luck getting it set back far enough.
