That's nothing, I was reading on a laptop and fell down the stairs.
On a more serious note, this is one of the reasons I went for a Hope hub on my new back wheel. If there's a time I need to announce my presence and shouting seems like it could come across as aggressive or startle someone, I just back-pedal a couple of revolutions and that does all the announcing I need.
