Injury help
Been running 35 years and riding so veteran. Had pelvic stress fracture in 1993 ( off 12 weeks running rode trainer) and another one in 1989 that I actually ran through taking a week off, diagnosed after the fact and had healed. Nothing significant since then except some usual things that I have missed no more than 5 days off running. Well two weeks ago a feel a bit tight in the SI joint of my back running my usual 6-7 miles daily. Then a week ago on July 27 I do a century in 6 hours and feel ok been riding ok have about 1700 miles for the year with nice weeks lately. I ran slow the next day 6 miles, and 7 the day after. By then by SI joint is sore after running and going around the side of hip. I have no pain going down the legs like nerve and no numbness. So then I took of to only ride my bike as not weight bearing. I went out on a ride 32 miles on vacation place I road before some minor pain but no real discomfort that I can ride and climb. Well I get back and everything went south. I could hardly walk or put weight on my right leg. Pain is bad and nsaids not working at all.
Well at my brother-in-laws place and he is a doctor family physician and he sets me up with a Medrol dose pack and they helped but did not take all the pain away. Naturally too early to tell although on exam he pretty well ruled out disk I can lift my legs up no issues not pain going down the feet. Took off 3 days and then last two days I rode 18 miles each no real pain riding but running is impossible hurts right in lower back above butt, no pain sitting, pain walking. After each ride it feels tight in the SI area of my right side. I don't think the rides hurt me but may not have been in my best interest.
Here is the deal. Have any of you here had a stress fracture cycling or some similar issue? I did up my mileage running before hand and in fact, it was down about 20% from my usual average. I have upped my cycling mileage to average about 160 a week since about mid June but nothing I have not done before and I am lost. I am pretty good with injury knowledge and even have bit of a scholarly level of injuries but I sure am no doctor. I could do all the medical stuff but recently have had work ups for some hip bursitis in my other hip that lasted 7 months but finally resolved. I even had an MRI and xrays in April this year. MRI was typical xrays typical so I hate to start looking all over why this lasted right back/hip is acting up .
I think it was probably caused by running but just wondered if cycling world has these injury issues. My knowledge of cycling overuse injuries is less but though I might throw this out for the BF and see if any similar situations. Normally as a runner we like to say cycling is great, not weight bearing, and other than crashing, or fit issues you cannot overdue it cycling? Stress factures of the pelvis are rare running as it is but cycling? At this point I do not think it is in the pelvis different than before but could be a sacral stress fracture? I am not seeking medical advice just wondering if anyone has had anything similar?
