Hmmm. seems like another Garmin omisson. The 60cx I've been using for years has a check box for "recalculate route" which allows the device to recognize you are off route and calculate a new path to the closest waypoint along your original route. I actually turn that off because I don't want to go back to a waypoint. I prefer finding my own way back to the defined route.
