I'm a fan of the District S, myself. I don't own one, but we've got one at the shop where I work, and I tend to take it for quick spins around the neighborhood more than anything else. It has an Alpha Gold aluminum frame (not steel), so it is fairly light. It rides really smoothly and handles great; and honestly, if I lived in a less hilly area, I would very likely pick one up for myself. It's just a simple, fun bike overall, and it's pretty much designed exactly for what you have in mind.
