Yeah the sign (and probably the law) says it is not allowed, but I wonder how strongly that is enforced, and what is the punishment.
Did a tour back in the early '80s from So Cal to Texas... and rode I-8 and I-10 for a good chunk of that. Arizona Safety Patrol pulled me over and told me to ride the frontage road... was an interesting conversation... no ticket though, but I was told to take the next exit.
So "no bikes" was enforced.
