The only thing I really miss about a triple is I could put it in the middle chainring and leave it there for most of my ride. But that's not enough of an advantage to spend the money to convert my existing bike to a triple, and when it comes time to shop for a new one I'll have a wider selection if I look for a double.
I have a triple on my bike and am debating on switching to a compact but am not sure if it is worth spending $1,000 to upgrade. My Calfee Tetra frame is great so I will not likely replace it.
