Agreed, the one you HAVE is 26mm. I mean to make sure that the diameter you NEED is 26mm, not something bigger like 26.2mm or 26.4mm, which are not uncommon. It is quite possible that in the 39 years since your bike was built that someone replaced the post with the wrong diameter.
