I've not been able to spend close to $80k on a single car (yet!), but your point is understood. I've been through more than 20 cars in my 27 years of driving (two of which stickered at $79.8k and $83.7k new, but I bought used), and just a few less bicycles in the same time, so maybe I have a peculiar outlook, if not a 'problem'!
No Tesla

but it is the one car I could think of that with enough research I could consider spending more than I would normally consider. Kind of like a $5000 bike :O. I drove a friends Ferrari 348 Spyder for a weekend and while I loved driving it I would never spend that kind of $$ on a car..a Tesla...maybe

Add a few clear photographs of your current bike:
(1) full drive side (right) view
(2) close up of cranks/chain/derailleurs/freewheel
(3) closeup of headbadge/stem/handlebars/front brake caliper/fork crown
(4) close up of front hub
(5) close up of rear seat cluster (portion of frame where seat tube, top tube, and seatstays merge) along with seatpost binder bolt
These should be enough to give the C&V crowd info to advise you about the rideability and value of maintaining this bike. It may be likely that you won't lose money spend on bearings/cables/brake pads. Tire costs should be considered consumable and worth the riding miles they give you.
You can sell the bike after you have ridden it for another year and thought more about what you really want to do with a bike. Save the money for now. Take your family out for a nice fun dinner and a little excursion/adventure with a portion of what you just avoided spending on a new bike.
Good luck. PG
I don't have any pics but I can try and take some though I'm not sure I will be able to do so for a few days (dark when I get home

). The money for a new bike though is not the concern, while I am cheap and always second and third guess a major purchase (anything over $500 or so) I also never buy anything that I don't have the cash for so there would be no compromises made in buying a new bike or fixing the old..or both. Tires won't need replacing...I just replaced the back tire last night

Oh I assume you are suggesting the C&V appraisal subforum?
cheers!
