go to your bike shop and ask them for the park tool spanner that allows wrenching the adjustable cup of your bike. it'll be $15 or so. a regular adjustable wrench can be used on the fixed cup if you decide to service it (which i always do with bikes i keep for a year or more).
the crank puller i love is marketed by snap-on under the name 'wrench force.' it is used with an adjustable wrench. mine was $7. the park tool that combines a handle with its puller is a big piece of stink.
