Not likely true. I've beaten the crap out of the $129 set of Alex wheels I got stock on my single speed from BD on gravel trails in awful conditions thousands of miles and they still work just fine. Of course, they weigh an effing ton. Light, strong, cheap: pick two. With "cheap" BD-speced wheels, you're usually giving up "light" not "strong".

Crankset/BB is lower level stuff, below Tiagra.
In fairness, most major brands also spec off-brand cranks on lower-end bikes.

The list of $2900 is a total joke - at best it's a $900 bike being sold for $1100
Agree the $2,900 figure is bull. Your second point is way off base, point me to the nearest new $900 carbon bike you find that beats the BD bike on spec.
