I figured this would be a great place to find out what is the latest gen of dura ace I can mount on this bike. The bike currently has several brands and models of parts; Shimano, SunTour, Dia Compe, 3TTT. I'm partial to Dura Ace so anyone out there that can direct me with which would be be best to use (7400, 7700, etc) would be much appreciated.
Nice bike Compton. I've got a very similiar Pro Miyata '81/82. Early Dura Ace would be most accurate in terms of age appropriatness, but it sounds like you want newer stuff, newer technology. You are going to be limited by the spacing of the rear dropouts, which should be 126 mm. That's only going to allow a hub with a max of seven gears. Any series of Dura Ace parts are going to fit the bike (derailleurs, brakes, etc.), but you are going to have to stick to 7 or 6 speed shifters (or friction mode), which means 7400 or earlier.
