Time for new pedals!

Saturday I was riding around town, and noticed a click from the cranks/BB area of my Felt road bike, when the left crank went just past the down tube. It only happened when pedaling while standing, out of the saddle, and only when putting the power down on the left pedal/crank arm. At first I thought oh crap, my BB is going out. Bike barely has 1,500 miles on it since I bought it brand new in September of last year.

Well that evening I had my bike in the stand at home and noticed my left SPD pedal made that "noisy" bearing noise when I spun the pedal around by hand. Right pedal was silent. Also could feel some wobbling in the pedal. Keep in mind that these SPD pedals are no-name pedals that came on my old KHS bike that bought used back in 2006, but I never used them until I got this Felt bike. I removed the spindle from the pedal and sure enough could feel plenty of movement in the bearings.

I've been wanting new pedals anyway, something dual-purpose so that I can use my bike shoes for commuting and longer rides, or regular shoes for more leisurely rides around town, with family etc. Up until now I've been swapping my SPD's and platform pedals off my KHS back and forth on the road bike depending on the type of ride I was doing, and it was really starting to get old. So I just ordered a set of Shimano PD-A530 dual SPD/Platform pedals from Amazon. Went with silver because the reviews said the black paint got torn up really easily, especially if shoe cleats were used on the platform side momentarily.

Should be getting them just in time for a local midnight charity ride this coming Saturday evening.
