I understand and agree with your statements 100%. Mountain biking keeps me in much better shape and is out where the air is "cleaner!"
I still ride ole skinny tires for several reasons, conditioning is none of them. The group rides are fun and I have found some good bakeries and coffee shops that way. There are more charity rides that I support, Wounded Warriors, Special Olympics, Tour de Cure and a Century like Vivabikevegas. Last night I couldn't sleep so I rode until midnight. Then I could sleep. The part I really dislike is that the Roady world attracts a percentage of Anal Retentive Creeps. They irritate me like a bad saddle on an all day ride!
I also enjoy the BBQ's smokin at trailheads and the comradeship of fat tire people. Nothing tops people on and around the trails.
