Just buy a complete bike instead. Even if you don't like the parts, the sale of them will help offset the cost.
if you want an easier project, pick a Japanese model from the 1980s. Standard part sizing, plentiful, relatively inexpensive.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.
