Then again, finances, health or a desire for another location/climate/lifestyle may prompt parents to sell house and move. Another future possibility is that they way want an empty nest, smaller living quarters and/or want their son to live somewhere else for whatever reason they choose. $500/month doesn't cover much if living on your own.

I suggest OP consider that his future may have a few very rough spots ahead if he doesn't plan for it.
