I've just measured: trail is around 5cm. if I can get a fork with 2cm more rake (1 for the overlap and 1 for the fender) I'll be left with a 3cm trail.
all of a sudden the first choice starts to look totally reasonable to me! :-)

not kiding now: I'll see if I get used to it w/o fenders. if I do I'll put on the fenders and see if I get used to it. I hope I'll do but if I don't I'll get I bigger (60cm) frame and sell this one (with a $100 loss) instead of quick-dirty tricks like smaller crank or bigger rake which could impact the geometry in un-imagined ways.
