I can understand the knee-jerk reaction to anything that could possibly refer to religion, since it's fed to us everywhere, including AA. South Park had a hilarious episode on this: http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s09e14-bloody-mary
You continue to miss the point. I agree with you that the religious suggestions here are baloney as well. The point is, you or nobody else has any providence on the truth when it comes to living anyone's' life. I am certain if you divulged your life to the public many would scoff. So for you to say that the OP is maligned in any sense is as much baloney as all those that suggest that religion may put him on a better path. Basically the problem in the world is intolerance of other peoples lives and belief systems and this starts with the individual including you. The OP is young. Young people go through a searching process to find their best path. He is quitting smoking which is an awful habit...and cutting down on drinking...another very bad habit. He is working out and into the healthy lifestyle of riding road bikes. Motorcycles are also great therapy though dangerous because of so many careless drivers on the road. Also the OP is hard worker and does have a girlfriend. I would say relative to most of the population he is way ahead...he just doesn't know it. Needs maybe a bit more pace or balance in his life if he feels stressed as many do because of the complexity of the world today.
The point is, there is no singular correct path for anybody and therefore nobody should judge. We are all different genetically and have been socialized differently with different talents and desires.
