For a while I was making steel cut oatmeal overnight using a crock pot as a double boiler. It worked all right. Instead of water in the oatmeal I was using the juice from a fruit cup with the balance made up of milk. This takes longer to absorb than with water so it's good to have some way to get it going before you wake up.
I don't know about your part of the world but around here there is a store called Winco that has bulk steel cut oats by the pound that cost about a tenth what they do in a canister.
Is steel cut oatmeal better than aluminum or carbon fiber cut oatmeal? Discuss.
