OK, dumb question. I've never taken shifters apart before. In the event I have to soak the shifters, do I just take the entire shifter / brake mechanism off the bike and soak it in a small bucket, or should the shifter be disassembled in some way? I didn't think they were user-serviceable that way.
I've always just sprayed the crap out of them with wd40 through the straw into the cracks and crevices of the mechanicals of the shifter. Spray, Pedal, shift. Repeat.
