When I lived in Israel (1980-2004) I didn't own a car... didn't have a driver's license! Didn't have a bicycle, either; so it was by foot or bus (or a combination of the two), rarely by taxi ($$$). Now, after three years in Fairbanks, AK (where I drove a 1988 Toyota 4Runner), I'm back in South Florida, and "car-free" for the past 15 months. Not gonna change, what with living on $700/month from Social Security (and SNAP). Being car-free and "frugal" were easier, when I was young; in my early-60s (particularly, here in South Florida), it's a PITA. No choice. Hat-tip to John Boehner... not!
