I've had this experience a number of times, although my driver started with profanity right away and got more verbally abusive from there. She expressed moral outrage that I was bicycling in the street, telling me that Wilmington doesn't have bike lanes like Philadelphia (so bicyclists can't use the roads).

Like your conversation, we were in parallel lanes (2 southbound lanes) for about a mile or so, stopping at each light. I don't see how having a bicycle instead of a car in the next lane affected her at all, but she was convinced bicyclists aren't allowed to use roads and can't (aren't allowed to?) go as fast as cars (so she was doubly infuriated and profane when I ignored her rules).
