Well the OP's shifters are 105 and there is certainly nothing in them that will be damaged by WD40.

Notice that my post was in agreement with Ithadan's post #12 .

I've used WD 40 to restore STI shifters for at least 12 years. It does a great job with loosening old hardened factory grease, as many other forum posters have found. No need to remove them from the hoods and no need to remove the shifters from the bike.
