I originally bought a KHS Hollywood Folding bike off craigslist.
Anyway, I get the fever and I purchase a used Montague Paratrooper and 4 days later and I get rear ended while at a complete stop...with my Paratrooper inside. Ok, the fork is bent slightly. The seat was twisted into oblivion. The handlebar is slightly warped The front disc break is touching the disc brake. It's still works, I had front wheel trued, I have some braking resistance but it still works.
So while the insurance company is fixing everything else, I need to turn my Paratrooper into the ultimate commuter.
So let's fix this bike. After reviewing and reviewing, I realize the only good component on my bike is the rear Shimano Deore Derailleur. Everything else is...CRAP. Specs can be found here:

I want to turn this into the ultimate bug out bike/commuter hybrid. Be able to take it far and far with minimal maintenance.
So, what can we build? I asked my LBS about installing a rear disc brake and he told me the holes are old standard...is there an adapter to fix that? Or just go with high quality V-Brakes for the cost of 1 good front disc brake?
As for the fork, I have have decided on the RhoxShox XC 28 TK. I would go rigid but I do go trail riding on weekends, nothing crazier than that and I feel this fork would work good on paved roads. Plus I don't want to deal with suspension correction.
However, are 700c wheels possible on this? Would I be able to turn this 26" Mountain Bike into a Hybrid Bike?
I want to upgrade my components. Either to Alivio (probably a MASSIVE upgrade compared to what I currently have) or to a Deore or to a Nuvinci n360. I've always liked Rohloffs but this seems to also be able to last forever and a lot less. Jack of all trades. I see that this item comes with a disc brake adapter, would that fix my disc brake problem?
How would you rebuild this bike? My LBS carries mostly Specialized branded items. so I have purchased Specialized bottle cage, Specialized Crossroads tires since I bike mainly on pavement, Specialized ergo barends and a Serfas simple egel bike seat which I might replace.
