I got hit on the back of my calf mountain biking so not only can they hit you fast but they can hit a moving target. That was last summer and I still have a little crater where it stung me. In a related story I rode into a little swarm of bees once and had quite a few go in my helmet and got my helmet off and shook out before I got stung. Basically if they want to sting you bad enough they will and if not you'll escape that day.
I've ridden through a swarm of bees and I didn't get stung. I was riding along and was suddenly pelted by small hard objects. I looked down, and recognized them as honey bees. I accelerated out of there, but I didn't get stung; and I had about a half dozen on me.
