We moved into Manhattan last week. Yesterday was the first day I rode my bike to get somewhere. I rode along the Hudson River Greenway. It's very narrow and requires quick wits, but man, can I go fast! There are almost no stop lights or signs. This has been around for a few years, but it wasn't here when I last lived in Manhattan, so the speed was astonishing. I accidentally overshot my destination, because I wasn't accustomed to the speed. I still got there early.

Today, I met rhm for lunch in midtown. Riding in midtown traffic at midday requires an intense amount of attention and energy. I'm not used to this, even though I had my wits about me. Now I see why fixed gears are popular here. It gives that much more direct and minute control of speed.
