DD, I like my tubulars a lot, too.
However, if you don't have them, get yourself a pair of tiresavers ($10. ea)

In this photo of my rear tiresaver, one thing you can't see is all the tiny marks on the tire from stone chips--- each tiny hole is a reminder that the tiresaver works to save your tire from flatting.
