That's a subjective question. Any bike could be fine for riding around with friends. It depends on your friends and what type of riding they are doing. Are your friends serious cyclists on geared road bikes who will be going on fast paced group rides?

This bike would make a good city bike. It could also go on some light off road trails as it comes. You have the option to run very wide tires with our without fenders. You can put a rack on the back. You can also mount a front rack on the fork. It has a 38/16 gear ratio. If it is very flat where you live you might have to pedal harder to keep your speed up. It comes with a freewheel so you can coast. The Kilo has a fixed gear (no coasting), much skinnier tires, 44/16 gear so you won't have to pedal as hard on the flats but it will be harder to get up a hill.

A lot of the things that are different between the two bikes can be changed out down the road if you want. The one thing that can not be changed is the ammount of clearance for wider tires
