I think I have lived both sides of that life. In my youth I knew very little about maintenance, everything got replaced. Once we bought our first house I learned a lot. Old houses havea way of doing that... You just cannot replace some of the nice old fixtures, you have to restore the old ones. I've learned that quality items are often worth the initial investment. Maintaining a quality tool or product is so smart for countless reasons.

I learned some of the values cylcotoine mentioned from camping with my mother. We ALWAYS had to leave sites cleaner than we found them. My mom would send us out to clean any trash that careless campers lef behind. I still do that to this day. We went hiking and my arms were loaded to the brim with litter
