For one thing I make a habit of almost never driving over 55-mph and always slowing down enough for curves and crests in the road that limit visibility such that even if there was another vehicle just around the corner or over the crest completely stalled in the road I would be able to come to a complete stop in time (I would imagine its the same for both human eyes and electronic sensors as far as not seeing around corners or over crests). From what I have seen most other people don't do that, and since it would be such people writing the programming I would like the ability to double check their work and make sure the car drives safe to my satisfaction of what is safe rather then the much looser and more reckless standards I more commonly observe.
Garbage In = Garbage Out, and if you have people who only know the typical reckless way to drive doing the programming it won't be safe to my satisfaction.
