arrived yesterday here from another forumite, a Masi 3V frame.
in pretty rough shape with rust-eater touches, scratches and a couple creases—possibly from a collision, although not too bad.
spent entire evening to research its origin, years, tubing etc.
panto on BB "M52 and 8020" turned out a 52cm size, made in USA (San Marco, CA) in '88,
most likely by the master builder Joe Starck of Masi USA.
(thanks to bhobey.com)
after some heavy touch-ups + clear-coating (not considering a thorough restoration work),
it will be assemble with the parts i've had/collected etc to be a daily beater SS "for now".
one thing i am really excited about is its two tone coloring—orange + black seat stays.
not sure it's an original scheme or someone's edition, i've never seen this combo over entire web.
reminding me '80's Dutch soccer team kit, i love the color combo.
and most of all, can't be better working w my black Columbus carbon fork.
list of major components waiting to be put on this is:
Columbus Minimal Carbon fork + Cane Creek Classic 100 HS + Look Titanium stem
Suntour Superbe Pro crank arms + SR 45 ring + Shimano SF1200 SS FW
total franken, but these are deliberately planned/collected for an idealistic—subjectively—daily commuter/beater, almost for a year.
although the goal of this project a.k.a Project Orange Bike 002 is not totally puristically classic or any sort,
thought sharing at least this awesome frame might interest some folks here. it's Masi, it's Orange. why not.
one quick question, that i couldn't get any closer to the answer:
DOES ANYNOE KNOW THE TUBING?
ppl say name Volumetrica is from its oversized Columbus Nivacrom tubing.
some say Columbus Matrix, some say 753—obviously for early '80 Italy produced 3Vs
but no one seems clearly ruling what USA-built 3Vs out of.
